I’m Marie, a Washington wedding and engagement photographer based in the Pacific Northwest, and I have such a big heart for capturing love in all its real, raw, and beautiful forms. Whether it’s a couple laughing together during golden hour or a quiet glance between vows, I love freezing those little moments that become some of your biggest memories.
To kick things off, I wanted to share something really special—a recent styled engagement session I hosted at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, Washington.
And it wasn’t your typical engagement session.
A Romantic Styled Shoot at the Washington State Capitol
This session was a styled engagement photography shoot featuring real couples who are getting married. My goal was to create something that felt romantic and editorial while still allowing the couples’ genuine connection to shine through.
I wanted the experience to feel fun, relaxed, and natural. Instead of focusing on perfectly posed photographs, I wanted to give each couple space to simply enjoy being together while I captured the little moments happening naturally between them.
The laughter.
The gentle touches.
The quiet looks.
The way they naturally moved toward each other.
Even though this was a styled shoot, nothing about their connection felt staged. Those in-between moments are exactly what I love most about engagement photography.
Washington State Capitol Engagement Photos
The Washington State Capitol in Olympia was the perfect setting for this session.
With its grand architecture, elegant marble staircases, beautiful grounds, and timeless details, the Capitol offers a completely different feel from an outdoor engagement session surrounded by mountains, forests, or beaches.
There is something about photographing couples in a space with so much history and architecture. The setting feels elegant and classic, while the couples’ natural interactions keep the images personal and full of emotion.
The soft evening light made everything even more beautiful. It created that warm, romantic glow that works so perfectly with the timeless architecture of the Capitol.

Why I Love Engagement Sessions
Engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of the wedding photography experience.
Your wedding day moves incredibly fast. There are family photos, getting ready, ceremonies, details, dinner, dancing, and so many people you want to see. Your engagement session, on the other hand, gives you the chance to slow down and simply enjoy being engaged.
And honestly? It’s also a great way for us to get comfortable together before your wedding day.
You don’t have to know how to pose.
You don’t have to be “good in front of the camera.”
And you definitely don’t have to spend the entire session smiling at the camera.
My approach to engagement photography is a mix of natural direction and documentary-style moments. I’ll guide you when you need a little help, but I also want to give you room to interact naturally so your photographs feel like you.

Golden Hour Kisses
The soft evening light wrapped around the couples and gave everything the most beautiful warm glow. Golden hour will forever be one of my favorite times to photograph couples.
Marble Staircase Romance
The grand marble staircase created such a timeless backdrop. I loved the contrast between the elegant architecture and the couples’ natural chemistry.
Unscripted Joy
Some of my favorite photographs weren’t the ones where everyone was looking at the camera. They were the moments in between—the laughter, cuddling, quiet conversations, and little touches that happened naturally.
Those are the photographs that make you remember how the moment felt.
