A Romantic Engagement Session in North Bend with Mount Si

There’s something so special about a Pacific Northwest engagement session, especially when you have a place like North Bend and Mount Si as your backdrop.

Back in February, I had the sweetest time photographing Roiel and Ashlyn for their engagement session in North Bend, Washington. With the mountains covered in clouds, soft winter light, and the beautiful landscape surrounding us, it was one of those sessions that felt so naturally Washington.

But before we get to their engagement photos, their story is one worth telling.

From a Last-Minute Date to Forever

Roiel and Ashlyn first met through mutual friends. They had known each other for a while, but it wasn’t until three days before Roiel moved out of state that he finally asked her on a date.

Talk about timing.

A year later, they both ended up back in Washington and decided to go on another date. And, as they say, the rest is history.

Eventually, that relationship led them here — planning their wedding and celebrating this next chapter together with an engagement session in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

The Proposal Wasn’t Quite What He Planned

When it came time for the proposal, Roiel knew exactly how to make it personal.

He had Ashlyn unknowingly plan the entire day — from a nice dinner to activities around Seattle. And honestly, it made perfect sense because she loves planning trips for the two of them.

The plan was apparently foolproof.

…until it wasn’t.

About ten minutes before they were supposed to leave, she was admiring her handsome fiancé when she felt something in his pocket.

A ring box.

Immediately, she knew.

She was shocked, excited, and emotional all at once. Roiel ended up proposing right there in their hotel room, even though she had completely messed up his carefully planned timing.

But looking back, she wouldn’t change a thing.

It wasn’t the perfectly executed proposal he had imagined. It was something much better — a completely unexpected, completely emotional, completely them moment.

And I think that’s what makes their story so sweet.

Their North Bend Engagement Session

For their North Bend engagement photos, we spent time surrounded by the beautiful landscape with Mount Si towering in the background.

February in Washington can definitely be unpredictable, but the moody winter weather ended up being the perfect fit for their session. The clouds wrapped around Mount Si, the grass was still green, and the soft, overcast light gave everything that dreamy Pacific Northwest feel.

They kept their outfits simple and neutral, which worked beautifully against the landscape. Her cream-colored dress and his white shirt and light denim felt timeless and effortless, allowing the focus to stay on the two of them and the connection they share.

And honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about engagement sessions.

They don’t have to feel like a photoshoot.

You don’t have to know exactly what to do with your hands or how to pose.

You just get to spend time together, and I’ll guide you through the rest.

Why I Love North Bend Engagement Sessions

North Bend is one of my favorite places in the Seattle area for couples who want their engagement photos to feel connected to the outdoors.

You get the towering mountains, open fields, trees, and that unmistakable PNW atmosphere all in one place. And depending on the season and weather, the landscape can look completely different.

For couples who love the outdoors but don’t necessarily want a full hiking adventure for their engagement session, North Bend can be such a beautiful option.

And Mount Si?

It’s hard to beat that backdrop.

There’s something about standing in an open field with the mountains behind you that makes an engagement session feel a little more like an experience and a little less like simply taking photos.

Your Engagement Session Should Feel Like You

One of my favorite parts of being a Washington engagement photographer is getting to hear the stories behind the couples I photograph.

Every couple has their own version of how they met, how they fell in love, and how they got engaged. Those little details are what make your photos meaningful years from now.

For Roiel and his fiancé, their story started with a date just days before moving away, brought them back together a year later, and eventually led to a proposal that didn’t go quite according to plan — but ended up being exactly right.

Their North Bend engagement session was such a beautiful way to celebrate everything that brought them to this point.

And with Mount Si watching over them, I think their photos captured a little piece of that story perfectly.

Planning Your Own North Bend Engagement Session?

If you’re looking for a North Bend engagement photographer or planning an engagement session somewhere in the Seattle area, I’d love to help you create something that feels natural, romantic, and true to the two of you.

Whether you’re dreaming of mountain views, an adventurous PNW session, or something a little more intimate, your engagement photos should feel like you two—not a Pinterest pose.

Let’s plan something beautiful together.

Sincerely,

Marie Nelson
