Nathan and Johanna’s Gig Harbor engagement session was a beautiful reflection of the things they love most: adventure, the outdoors, traveling, and simply enjoying life together. What started as a casual connection online slowly turned into something much deeper, and after a year together, their relationship is filled with laughter, exploration, and a genuine love for experiencing new things side by side.
There’s something special about couples who find their connection through adventure. For Nathan and Johanna, their love story began online, but what started casually soon became something much deeper.
Nathan and Johanna met online, never knowing that a casual beginning would eventually turn into something so meaningful.
As they spent more time together, they began discovering deeper feelings and emotions for one another. What started as simply “liking” each other gradually became love.
And then came the adventures.
Traveling, hiking, exploring, and discovering new places together became an important part of their relationship. These are the moments when they feel like they truly see each other.
They love being outdoors. They love staying active. They love the spontaneity of an adventure and the joy that comes from experiencing something new together.
For them, love isn’t just about the big moments. It’s also about the little adventures along the way.
Nathan knew Johanna was the one when they traveled to South Carolina together for the first time.
They spent their days walking along the beach, enjoying the ocean, and watching beautiful sunsets together. Those moments became some of the memories that made him realize just how special their relationship had become.
And then there’s her smile.
When asked what makes his heart melt, Nathan kept it simple: her smile.
Her “dang smile,” as he put it, warms his heart every time he sees it.
Honestly, those little details are my favorite part of hearing a couple’s story. Sometimes it isn’t one grand, cinematic moment. Sometimes it’s a smile, a laugh, a walk on the beach, or the way someone makes you feel when you’re simply together.

One of my favorite things about Nathan and Johanna is how naturally adventure fits into their relationship.
They love hiking, traveling, exploring, and spending time outdoors. They enjoy staying active and finding new places to experience together.
Johanna’s passion for spontaneous adventures is one of the things Nathan loves most about her. He also loves her laugh, her smile, and her inner beauty.
And when it comes to Nathan, Johanna describes him as kind, sweet, tall, and handsome. She loves that he enjoys working with his hands and building and creating things. They also share that same love for the outdoors and an active lifestyle.
There’s something really beautiful about finding someone who not only loves you, but also loves doing life with you.
Their ideal date night is actually pretty simple.
A dinner date followed by a nice walk together during sunset or golden hour.
No elaborate plans. No need for anything extravagant.
Just good food, a beautiful evening, and time together.
And honestly, that feels very fitting for Nathan and Johanna. Their relationship seems to be about finding joy in the experience itself—whether that’s traveling somewhere new, hiking a trail, watching the sunset, or simply taking a walk together.

For their Gig Harbor engagement session, I wanted their photos to feel natural and connected to who they are as a couple. Rather than focusing only on perfectly posed photographs, we made space for movement, laughter, closeness, and those little in-between moments that feel like them.
Engagement sessions are such a meaningful part of the wedding experience because they give couples the chance to slow down and simply enjoy being together before the wedding day arrives.
For Nathan and Johanna, their session was another little adventure to add to their story.
Their love story may have started online, but it has grown into something rooted in adventure, laughter, friendship, and a genuine love for experiencing life together.
And if their first year together is any indication, there are so many more adventures waiting for them.
If you’re planning an engagement session in Gig Harbor, Seattle, Tacoma, or somewhere else in Washington, I’d love to create something that feels like you.
Whether your perfect session looks like hiking through the mountains, walking along the beach, exploring a new town, or watching the sunset together, your engagement photos should tell the story of your relationship—not just show you posing for a camera.
Your love story is unique. Your engagement session should be, too.
